A farm in Davao City, Kenaniah Farm, is a recipient of the Livestock Program for Learning Site from the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI-XI) for CY 2016. The farm is owned by Mr. Roderick Buenconsejo which is located at Purok 1-A, Gumalang, Baguio District. The 2.250 hectare farm is growing vegetables and raising livestock and poultry. This year it obtained a Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) Davao Certification. PGS Davao Certification ensures that the produce from the farm are naturally grown and free from chemical inputs.
PGS is a worldwide initiative recognized by International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM). It is low cost compared to third party certification and its concept is participatory where the consumers as well as producers and other intermediaries participate in the development of the protocols as well as in the certification process.
On October 6, 2016, the City Veterinarian’s Office representative accompanied the Evaluation & Validation team from the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Region XI composed of the following personnel: Rowina Esconde, Planning Officer II; Louie Benedict Gulfan, Learning Site Focal Person; Omarbliss Dalam, Livestock Focal Person; and Beverly C. Pantinople, Project Evaluation Officer. They conducted an onsite evaluation of Kenaniah Farm. Under the Learning Site Program, the farm will be granted a financial aid in the amount of P 200,000.00 to enhance the existing farm operations. As a farmer and student field trip destination for the past years, the farm as a Learning Site, will continue to open its gates and share their best farm practices for those who seek knowledge on chemical-free and sustainable farming technologies.
