The National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS) under the Department of Agriculture (DA) has funded the Establishment of Malagos Cold Storage Warehouse with Meat Cutting Facility at Malagos, Baguio District.  On December 28, 2020, Dr. Rolando Marquez, Officer-In-Charge Regional Technical Director of the National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS) XI, Dr. Lailanie Rose Rico also from NMIS-XI, and Dr. Esther Cherrie G. Rayos, Assistant City Veterinarian turned over the check amounting to Php 45,000,000.00 for the first tranche of fund for the said facility to the Assistant City Treasurer, Ms. Villa Dureza, who issued acknowledgement receipt in behalf of the City Government of Davao.

The facility is among the massive agricultural projects that Department of Agriculture funded to boost farmer’s productivity in order to attain food safety and security.  Its  total project cost is Php 90,000,000.00 and the source of funds came from Bayanihan II “Bayanihan to Recover As One Act”  stimulus package.  It is for the benefit of the livestock sector of the city for purposes of enhancing productivity and income by providing a cold storage warehouse where surpluses in production could be stored. The following are the other benefits of having a readily available cold storage: It will lead to improved nutrition for the populace because food nutrients are preserved; avoid food loss and wastage, thus, a means to achieve food security; and reduce food cost that will result to lower market prices for the local population.
